Battle of the Watches: Cartier v. Raymond Weil

We've been talking a lot lately about Cartier and the many, many inspired-by pieces and blatant knockoffs on the market. So, how relevant that Cartier was just granted a preliminary injunction against Swiss watchmaker, Raymond Weil. Cartier alleged that Raymond Weil's Jasmine collection of watches are knockoffs of its Ballon Bleu collection. (They both certainly share the same blue hands and similarly placed roman numerals and date markers). The judge presiding over the the Court of Cologne, Germany, where Cartier brought this action, ordered that Raymond Weil immediately halt sales of the watches at issue, at least until Weil files an appeal. Interesting bit of information: Cartier has been selling the Ballon Bleu collection for at least a decade. Weil began producing the Jasmine collection this year. More to come ...
